I have had a dual career as a seasonal archaeologist since 1999 and have also been involved in public education for over 20 years. I’ve taught at many different grade levels including High School and at Ivy Tech. Currently, I teach 7th grade Social Studies at Perry Heights middle school. In my classes I like making history become hands-on and tangetable. This designing of a City Flag contest is a great match with my style of teaching because the contestants are analyzing what makes Evansville unique and then portraying that uniqueness on cloth. I am involved in this project because I see the value in a community having a shared symbol. I do feel there is a certain ‘esprit de corps’ that comes with a flag that truly represents a community.
